The Key Elements of an Eco-House

    leaf leaf

Living in an Eco-House is a relatively new trend, that has arisen along with the concern of younger generations to take action into prevent Climate Change and taking care of the environment.

It may be the case, that you live in a home that wasn’t originally designed to be sustainable, meaning that, maybe its design doesn’t really take into account local weather conditions or room distribution for thermal insulation, in order to help reduced its energy consumption, and therefore, its carbon dioxide emissions.

But, that doesn’t mean you can’t make of your house a more eco-friendly place to live in. Still, there are many types of installations and equipment you can implement in our home, so that it becomes more of an Eco-House that is friendly to its surroundings.

Learn more about key elements that you can install in your house to make it more Eco-Friendly 🏡🍃

    Install Solar Panels

As popularly known, Solar Panels are a way to power your house, by using the main and most powerful renewable energy source: the sun.

Solar panels are one of the most popular sustainable equipment, yet sometimes, not that common to actually be installed. This is because they tend to be thought of as a more expensive or difficult way to reduce the use of electricity.

Although, at first solar panels might need a little bigger economic investment, on the long-run, these are not only one of the best ways you take advantage of local weather to generate electricity, but also, they become increasingly cost-effective over the years.

Solar Panels help reduce a house carbon footprint, by decreasing electricity consumption and carbon emissions.

    Planting Green Roofs

Green Roofs are an extension of a house existing roof, distinguished by its looks of a garden. It entails a series of elements; root repellent system, drainage system, filter cloth, a lightweight growing medium, and plants. They can be defined as  “contained” green space on top of a house.

Not only do they look good and pretty, but Green Roofs also have multiple benefits regarding thermal insulation; they help maintain a cool temperature inside the house, reducing the need of energy consumption and therefor reducing carbon emission and improving air quality.

Naturally, the plants grown on Green Roofs, are not the same as the plants that you can find on the ground, because of the relatively small space for roots and different weather conditions.

    Using LED Light Bulbs

Trying to use as much Eco-Friendly equipment and items as you can, will help reduce your house’s electricity consumption. Using things like LED Light Bulbs and other Smart Technology Equipment, will make your Eco-House energy efficient.
Items like LED Light Bulbs, consume about 90% less energy than regular light bulbs; and not only do they consume less electricity, but they also do not contain hazardous materials and gasses that many other regular electricity appliances do.

    Install Water Saving Equipment

Water is one of the most important resources on earth, and although it is considered to be a renewable one, the reality is that every day there is less and less availability of usable water. Installing methods to save up water and cut water waste, is essential in an Eco-House.

There are many ways you can contribute to saving water waste; installing water sensing faucets in kitchens and bathrooms, rain barrels for outdoors water storage, low-flow or dual-flush toilets, and many other household appliances that can now be bought with Eco-Friendly characteristics.
