Eco-House Trends for 2023: What to expect?

    leaf leaf

As sustainability becomes more important among society, every year Eco-Houses grow more in demand. And with that, they have evolved into more sophisticated and innovative types of homes.

Eco-Houses are no longer just about green spaces and implementing renewable energy installations; but to go green in all aspects of homes and day-to-day living.

The upcoming year is going to be a really important one for Sustainable Real Estate.

Here are some of the Eco-House Trends the market can expect for 2023 👇

    1. Net Zero Buildings

Zero-Emissions, Energy Efficient, Clean Energy Building, Green Energy, Green Buildings

One of the most popular trends in green buildings is Net Zero Building, otherwise known as Zero-Emission or Self-sufficient Buildings. These are not new to the Sustainable Real Estate Market, but they continue to be one of the main ways to reduce the impact of real estate on the environment.

These are buildings that produce their own clean energy, and only produce as much as it consumes; lowering its otherwise high carbon dioxide emissions to zero.

Some of the Net Zero Buildings benefits are:

    • Reduced environmental impact, reducing its pollution to the environment.
    • Improved financial performance, asi their energy production comes from renewable resources and not man-made.

    2. Green Roofs

Green Patch, Local Vegetable Patch, Backyard Garden, Produce Garden

Building Green Roofs above Eco-Houses is also a popular trend that will grow stronger in 2023. They’re a type of sustainable infrastructure where a roof is partially or totally covered by plants, and they can be built either on new or existing buildings.

Among the benefits of Green Roofs are:

    • Thermal insulation inside the house, providing cool temperature on hot days and warm temperature during winter.
    • Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduced, by cooling the air, green roofs reduce the urban heat island effect, and therefore reduce energy use.
    • Providing habitat for wildlife, like small birds and other animals to nest, they help improve local biodiversity and preservation.

    3. In-House Vegetable Gardens

Green Patch, Local Vegetable Patch, Backyard Garden, Produce Garden

One of the most popular ways among younger generations, to start living green, is to stop buying from big supply market chains, and start consuming locally. This includes their food, and it’s why local patches in your own home have become so popular.

Among the benefits of a local Vegetable Garden are:

    • Cleaner and fresher products.
    • Saving money, and in the long-run even an alternate source of income.

Reducing gas emissions and pollution, of big supermarkets that use pesticides in crops and fossil-fuels in production, distribution and selling.

    4. Smart-Home Technology

Smart Living, Efficient Homes, Smart Houses, Smart Equipment

As their name states, Smart-Homes are those that use technology to smartly and remotely control all aspects of the house; lightning, cooling, heating, security and many other components.

Even though Smart Technology may not seem like a very obvious sustainable option, a Smart-Home can actually be one of the most sustainable ones, because of the efficient way they regulate resources.

Some of the Smart-Home benefits are:

    • Energy saving by automation, by having resources regulated smartly, the margin of human error is reduced. Little things like having the water faucet on a little too long, or forgetting to turn off lights, often elevate the energy waste, and therefore resources, on regular houses.
    • Reducing waste with renewable resources, Smart-Home installations can often decide to store energy and reuse it later to power appliances, rather than having one-time-use energy generation.

    5. Unique & Upcycled Furniture

Second-Hand Furniture, Recycled Materials, Upcycled Furniture, Loca Furniture

Among Eco-Friendly practices, one of the most popular is also to reuse and recycle, or “hunt for” unique items for your home. From thrift shopping to upcycling old items, the idea is to bring a sustainable approach to all elements inside a house, and not only its power resources or garbage disposal.

Upcycled Furniture will be one of the biggest trends in the upcoming year, also including recycled elements, second-hand items or locally made furniture from recycled materials.

Some of the benefits from Upcycled Furniture are:

    • Unique items, these will spark up your home and will give a room a special aesthetic view.
    • Reduce waste, by reusing and recycling items that otherwise will be thrown away.
    • Save resources, by repurposing items you save the resources that will be invested in making new furniture from start, and all the gas emissions their process would take.
